Adams Sensor

At Midland Shockwave we give the patents the option to use the Adam Sensor as part of the treatment package to track penile health and allow to track treatment results during and thereafter following the course of treatments.

How the Adam Sensor Works

The Adam Sensor is a small device designed for comfortable wear on your penis during sleep
which tracks nighttime erections by monitoring changes in penile size throughout the night.
As your penis becomes erect, it increases in size The Adam Sensor detects these size changes.

• The device records the frequency, duration, and extent of these changes.
• This data is transmitted to the AdamHealth app on your smartphone.
• The app analyses this information and provides you insights and trends over time,
empowering you to take control of your health.

Erection health

Most men experience 3-5 nighttime erections, with healthy men in their 20s getting over
3 hours of them per night.  As men age, this reduces to under 50 minutes by 75.

Nighttime erections are your penis's natural workout, helping maintain tissue health by
bringing oxygen-rich blood. Without them, scar tissue can form, leading to difficulty with
erections.

The Adam Sensor helps track and optimize your erection health,
distinguishing between psychogenic and organic ED, and supporting your recovery
progress if you're facing ED.

The Importance of Night Time Erections

Night time erections, that can be tracked by the Adam Sensor, are a natural and important physiological process. Night time erections play a vital role in maintaining penile function health by providing oxygen-rich blood flow, like a night time workout/gym for the penis.

Healthy adult males typically experience 3-5 erection episodes during sleep, around 1.5 to 3 hours. These erections aren’t just important for erectile health — they can also provide valuable

insights into your overall well-being including cardiovascular, metabolic and hormonal health.

Longevity

Men with erection problems are 70% more likely to face early mortality compared to those without, even after considering other factors.

Night time erections, tracked by the Adam Sensor, serve as a barometer of overall health, reflecting cardiovascular, hormonal, metabolic, and lifestyle choices. In many ways, they are an ideal biomarker for both male health-span and lifespan.

Testosterone levels:

Night time erections are highly sensitive to testosterone levels, making them a great and objective indicator of hormonal health. If you're undergoing testosterone therapy, tracking night time erections can give you clear feedback on how well your treatment is working.

Since these erections respond to changes in hormone levels, they offer a natural way to understand your body’s progress over time.

Cardiovascular and metabolic health:

Erection issues can be an early warning of cardiovascular disease, often appearing 3-5 years before heart problems. For men with diabetes, erection difficulties may signal

peripheral nerve damage caused by high blood sugar, impacting both nerve and blood vessel function.

By tracking night time erections, you can gain insights into both heart and metabolic health, allowing for timely intervention and personalized care to address underlying conditions like diabetes.

Adam sensor metrics:

  • Number of Erection Episodes - Track how many erections you experience per night, typically 3-5 erections for healthy men.

  • Average Erection Quality - Assess erection rigidity on a 0-100% scale, with 100% being optimal.

  • Total Duration of Erections - Measure how long erections last, with healthy men experiencing between 1.5 to 3 hours of night time erections.

  • Sleep Efficiency - Monitor sleep patterns, aiming for 85%+ sleep efficiency for best health outcomes.

  • AndroAge™ - A unique score reflecting your erection health compared to your age group. Compare it to your chronological age to see if you need to improve your night time erections.

Common Questions:

  • How does it help?
Blood flow is critical for a man’s erection If relevant medication works for you then this is a good sign that shockwave should work more permanently and without the side effects of medication. Shockwave - Promotes angio-genesis meaning developing of new blood vessels in the penis. Which increases blood flow to the penis and hence stronger erections are achieved Healing of smooth muscle within the penis – within most patients with EDF the smooth muscle in their penile arteries is damaged, so reducing function.
  • What does the treatment involve?
The EDF trained shockwave practitioner will have a consultation with you to determine whether you both think it is an appropriate treatment for yourself. Additionally, if there are any other recommendations and expected result. The shockwave head is used on the penis and surrounding tissue for around 15 minutes. Generally, it is normally not painful during or after treatment, but patients may have different sensations. Research and previous practice shows that 6 sessions over a 6-week period is the best protocol.
  • What results to expect?
In two thirds of cases it should improve ability to have a spontaneous erection and sustain one. Results will vary depending on the individual. Sometimes there are other factors that will need to be addressed and this will be supported by your practitioner or an additional referral. But the treatment will still be beneficial.
  • When do you see the results?
Some patients get results straight away, but the treatment optimises over a few months. If after 3-4 months the patient still does not experience a reasonable improvement, then other treatment will need to be considered.
  • Are the results permanent?
The biological effects of shockwave therapy are permanent and have been established on a basic science level. However, erectile dysfunction depends on the lifestyle of patients and is usually a symptom of underlying health issues which lead to ED. Due to these underlying conditions, this means that the improvements after the treatment potentially might be reversed over time if the underlying conditions are not addressed. The studies so far have only been followed up a year later, but results show that the treatment works after one year from the treatment.
